Fantastic advice on symptoms- what they mean - and specific advice on how to curb them. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I discovered Dr Lara Briden via her blog on female hormonal issues.

Because her content helped my perimenapausal symptoms so much I decided to buy the book kindle version. As her blog is so informative I actually wasn't expecting too much new content in the book, I just thought it would be a concise version of the info out there already I only bought the book yesterday and I have already devoured most of it. There is so much new content in this book and will a godsend for anyone struggling with perimenpausal issues. It is informative, backed by science but not boring or overwhelming.

It made me feel normal! What I really love about this book is that it is not faddy in anyway. We are not told to stick to a certain strict diet or to buy expensive powders or shakes. It is also full of lifestyle changes we can make to help keep us healthy and importantly why these changes work. Love it, love it, love it! The symptoms of migraine, insomnia, mood swings and food cravings were kicking in around day 16 of my cycle and lasting until my bleed. I was also having heavier periods closer together than previously.

Having read through the book I approached my GP citing the studies quoted in the book and was prescribed progesterone as dr Lara briden talks about on a trial basis to see if it would help. From the first night I slept better, had fewer headaches and better mood. The only slight side effect was two spots upon menstruation which seems like a small price to pay for getting my life back!

My husband and teenage daughters are also very grateful to Dr Briden for a happier better functioning wife and mum!!

Lara Briden is incredible. I read her book and from her guidance started a protocol of supplements which has been an absolutely game changer. I had seen 2 GPs who where useless. This book is incredible!

I learned so much, even though I have been researching this topic intensely. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I just wish I had read it when I was in my mid 40's rather than mid 50's. I found this book positive, empowering and inspiring. The author is clearly a leader in her field of medicine. Her extensive knowledge and experience is communicated in a clear and accessible manner.

Part One is on understanding perimenopause and menopause. The introductory chapters cover the hormonal changes during menopause, evolutionary advantages and stigma. Part Two covers treatment. It starts with general maintenance. There are then chapters on specifics, for example weight gain, hot flushes, period pain and many more. Conventional treatments are described and helpful tips on how to speak to your GP. Diet, lifestyle, supplements and herbal medicines are given. It is comprehensive and I loved the holistic approach.

Citations to medical papers are included if you want to delve in more details. I found this so helpful I've already bought another 2 copies to give to friends!
